Blog Post 6: Direct Financial Aid & A Soccer Field
Mambo, friends and supporters! The last few weeks have been an exciting time for Tia Moyo: We've been able to reach many Tanzanians in a variety of ways. In addition to the "classics" like building toilets, enabling children to attend school, or donating goats to families, we were able to realize two special projects last month.
Jafari, with his family and our coordinator Leticia.
First, we helped Jafari, a man who recently lost a leg in a car accident. We had already given Jafari an initial boost a few months ago, by buying him crutches while he made plans to adjust to his new reality. Now, he told us that he wants to continue providing for his family and plans to become a bajaji driver (like a tuktuk), a job that many people with physical disabilities do in Tanzania. We supported him with approximately 575 euros for his driver's license lessons. We were able to offer him a deeply needed lifeline to get a new life started.
Second, we were able to work with a local primary school to build a sports field on the school grounds, as well as to provide basic sports equipment. There aren't many recreational activities for the children in Tanzania, but soccer is always a good option! With the new sports program, we're reaching many children and bringing a little more exercise and enjoyment into their everyday school life.
